For the second year in a row, the Sea Scout Ship Sea Fox (Alameda) have used their annual pie fundraiser as a vessel to serve women and children escaping violence, homelessness, and addiction. During the yearly fundraiser, pie buyers are encouraged to get pies for themselves and for the Shepherds Gate shelters. 26 pies were bought and delivered to the two campuses this year. Cub Scouts from Pack 152 in Oakley delivered the pies to the Brentwood campus while Sea Scouts delivered the pies to the Livermore Campus. “We do a lot of sailing in Contra Costa and Alameda County, so this gives us an opportunity to give back to those communities.” Says Skipper Ken Shupe. Tina Moore from Shepherd’s Gate Brentwood campus says that this donation of pies allows them to serve residents all year long with a nice treat for parental visits and family dinners. The “get pies give pie” aspect of this fundraiser is something the Sea Scouts really like about this fundraiser.
