SSS Makai, Sea Fox, and MEC 700 Open House

Maritime Explorer Club scouts from Makai kayaking at open house

Open House at Ballena Isle Marina in Alameda

Sea Scout Ships Makai 700, Sea Fox 9, and MEC 700 had a successful open house on Sunday, March 26, 2023.

After all the rain lately, it was a beautiful sunny day on Sunday, perfect for an open house for some of the East Bay Sea Scouts groups. Sea Scout Ships 9 “SeaFox” and 700 “Makai,” and Maritime Explorer Club (MEC) 700 showed new youth what Sea Scouts is all about. Attendees were able to kayak, paddleboard, and check out the engines on the Sea Fox’s sailing vessel, among other activities. The Open House took place at Ballena Isle Marina in Alameda, CA.

Thanks to the fantastic marketing savvy of Tamara Sokolov, Council VP of Young Adult Programs, the open house received 78 RSVP’s. The event also generated a qualified adult leader for Ship 9 and a woman leader for the Maritime Explorer Club so 6th-8th grade girls can now join. Several girls joined the MEC on Sunday. We need more adults throughout Sea Scouting.

Please email the Sea Scouts Commodore: Steve Welch  for more information about joining and volunteering with Sea Scouts in the Golden Gate Area Council.
