Native Son’s Flag Day Ceremony – Sonoma, CA
On June 12, 2002, the Sea Scout Ship Chaser’s Color Guard took part in the annual Flag Day Celebration on the Sonoma Plaza in Sonoma, CA. The Scouts presented the National Ensign for the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem and then the lowered the California state flag, which had been flying over the plaza for a year and raised a new state flag in its place. The old state flag was then presented to Jeff Schmidt, Grand President of the Native Sons of the Golden West, who host the event every year as June 14th is not only the day that the National Ensign was adopted by the Continental Congress but it is also the anniversary of the Bear Flag Revolt in 1846.
