Mini Regatta at SSS Chaser's base in Napa
Saturday, November 12, 2022
Napa Mini Regatta is an annual practice regatta for Sea Scouts around the Bay Area that takes place on the Napa River at the Sea Scout Ship (SSS) Chaser’s base. This year, it opened with a flag ceremony in honor of Veterans’ Day and was followed by dinner, the GGAC Bridge of Honor to celebrate scouts achieving their respective ranks in Sea Scouting, and a dance. Napa Mini 2022 had the largest number of participants in recent years, with 175 attendees.
Scouts trained and competed in events such as:
- Rope Climb
- Breeches Buoy
- Ring Buoy
- Compass
- Heaving Line
- Scuttlebutt
- Radio
- Marlinspike
- Bosun’s Chair
- Drill
Adult leaders from various ships helped train and then run ships through each event. This will help prepare scouts for competitive regattas, such as Southwestern Rendezvous in Southern California over Thanksgiving weekend and Seafarers, Old Salts’, and Ancient Mariners regattas in spring at home here in the Bay Area.
We had many GGAC ships attending. They included SSS Albatross, Chaser, Corsair, Konocti Phoenix, Makai, Northland, Odyssey, Sea Fox, and Viking. It was a great, fun-filled day!
