Sea Scout Ships Corsair & Viking Host Fun on the Water
The Golden Gate Area Council Sea Scout Ships Corsair and Viking have just wrapped up their series of week-long day camps. These camps are centered on getting kids 11-15 out on the water and interested in scouting. It’s also an opportunity to recruit new members for Corsair and Viking. The Maritime Summer Camp also brings in interest for their year-round Maritime Explorer Club – Makani C19.
This year’s camp included lots of time on the water learning competent small boating skills, as well as kayaking, outrigger canoeing, and of course, sailing historic wooden whaleboats. Campers also do lots of important learning, brushing up on parts of a boat, boating safety, and tide and current conditions on the water.
Camp was staffed by Corsair and Viking crew members, who also took the time to do some important prep work for their two week summer cruise, kicking off at the end of July. Camp this year saw dozens of kids coming through the SF sea scout base, and learning a passion for boating they will continue to carry with them.
After another successful year of camp, we are already looking forward to getting on the water next summer!
